Robotics Ambassador

Our teen program exists to develop young leaders, with an emphasis on science and conservation. The Robotics Ambassador program participants will demonstrate robotics capabilities of the Greensboro Science Center using a cart/table setup throughout the museum (usually in the main lobby) and robotics or other engineering related interactive materials. Being a Robotics Ambassador requires good people skills with all ages, a passion for sharing your knowledge of legos, robotics, science, and the ability to be self-directed and responsible. You'll interact with our visitors during every shift and contribute to their positive experiences here at the GSC.

Robotics Ambassador Application

A Robotics Ambassador is a volunteer educator. Robotics Ambassadors are a visible part of the GSC team and interact directly with our visitors every day. Robotics Ambassadors are advocates for the impact that science, robotics, and engineering can have in the lives of young children. Brick Engineering classes and camps and Robotics Leagues are hands-on programs that allow students to improve their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Demonstrating the types of activities completed in classes and camps is a great way to help generate interest in the program and give visitors the opportunity to ask questions. They often want to go into our Robotics classrooms, which are unfortunately only open to students participating in classes, camps, and leagues. As a Robotics Ambassador, you will help bring that content to them!

Robotics Ambassadors are expected to volunteer a minimum of six hours per month. The shifts are split up into three hour blocks of time. The shifts are 9:45 to 1:00 and 12:45 to 4:00. There are no shifts after 5:00 unless we have a special event or rental. The program will operate on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the school year, as well as on Guilford County Schools workdays and during breaks and holidays. It will operate 7 days a week during the summer.

Robotics Ambassadors must be at least 14 years old to apply. Applicants must be at least 14 years of age by March 22, 2018 to be considered for the March class. No exceptions will be made.
  1. Submit an application by 5pm on February 1. Our staff will review all applications after that deadline and will contact selected candidates to schedule interviews. We will likely be unable to interview every candidate, so please provide thoughtful responses to your application questions.
  2. Schedule and successfully complete an interview. All interviews must be completed by February 22.
  3. All candidates who were interviewed for the program will be notified by 5pm on February 26 to let them know if they have been chosen for the program.
  4. Complete one scavenger hunt by March 19 to learn about the GSC.

The fee for our Robotics Ambassador program is $25.00. This includes the cost of your name tag and your volunteer t-shirt which you will wear during your shifts. The fee also helps defray the cost of running the program. That fee is due at the time of your entry into the program, NOT when you submit your application.
