Winter Break Adventures

Join our winter break science camps for three days of adventure and learning! All of our age-appropriate programs emphasize hands-on education, so be prepared to jump in and DO science.

Pre-registration is required. Full class fees are due at time of registration. Registration is accepted with Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Memberships may be purchased or renewed separately by calling 336-288-3769, ext. 1324.

Refunds for withdrawals will be made if the GSC is notified at least 14 days in advance. A service charge of $5 per participant per workshop will be charged for changes and $10 per participant per workshop will be charged for withdrawals.

We reserve the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. We will make this determination two weeks prior to the beginning of class. Should this occur you will receive notification and a full refund. Limited financial assistance may be available. Contact Courtenay Vass at 336-288-3769 ext. 1389 for details.

Young Explorers (ages 4 - 6)

Wild Winter Animal Adventures
Uncover the wonders of animals in the winter. Play animal games, create wild crafts and get up-close with your favorite creatures. You’re going to have a WILD time becoming an animal expert. Send a snack each day.

Junior Explorers (ages 7 - 10)

Mountains to Coast
From the GSC perspective, we will take a tour across our beautiful state and explore the habitats of each region. Learn first-hand about the diverse array of animals living in North Carolina and how they are unique from other species around the world. This camp will introduce students to basic concepts of ecology, local geography and environmental science. Dress for cold weather as we will spend time outside. Send a snack, drink and bag lunch each day.

Brick Engineering

EARLY (Engineering and Robotics Learned Young) Robotics (ages 8 - 9)

Pizza, Ice Cream and More!
If you like yummy, delicious food, then Food Factor is your mission. Are you and a partner ready for the challenge of building and programming a robot using a Lego Mindstorm EV3® brick to complete food related missions such as corn harvesting, fishing and pizza making?  But watch out - there’s a rat lurking near one of the missions. We’ll also try our hand at making some homemade ice cream. Send a snack, drink and bag lunch each day.

Rookie Robotics (ages 10 - 12)

Power Puzzle
Power up at this Lego Mindstorm EV3® winter camp and complete missions from this previous FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) challenge. You and a teammate will be on a mission to build a robot, program it and add attachments to complete challenges like putting a solar panel on a roof, moving wind turbines, mining uranium, and tree planting all in the name of better energy choices. We’ll also visit the maned wolves to learn about the solar panels on their exhibit. Send a snack, drink and bag lunch each day.
